Social Media Is the new media that is essential for businesses to thrive today. As an Advertising senior and Michigan State University beginning my job search process, a majority of the positions I am applying for request that applicants have proficient skills in Social Media Networking Sites. With the economy the way it is today, individuals need to have these skills to succeed. Recently, my neighbor from home lost her job, and in order to find a new one she needs to find a class that will provide her with social media knowledge and skills.

Michigan State University understands the necessity of social media skills and has implemented a new, innovative course that focuses wholly on navigating your way through social media. The course is labeled “New Media Drivers License”. I am currently enrolled in the course and have friends who have taken the class who have found it to be an enormous benefit.

The course has put me in better touch with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Linkedin. On top of these more popular social media, the course has introduced me to many social media monitoring sites such as Stumbleupon. These social media monitoring sites allow companies to see what people are saying about them, whether good and bad, and what they can do to ensure they can provide the best service and products as possible.

There is an infinite amount of opportunities for companies when it comes to social media. Social media will provide better connections for industries, companies, employees, as well as customers. Michigan State University’s New Media Drivers License course gives you a certification and the necessary skills to navigate through social media.
